How do I rent a practice room?
Please create an account with us. Once your account is set up, contact our Front Desk at 604-915-9300 ext. 100 or email info@vsoschoolofmusic.ca to make a reservation.
When contacting us, please include your preferred:
- Date
- Time
- Room type (practice room, grand piano studio, ensemble room, etc.)
Do you accept rental drop-ins?
Yes. Our upright piano practice rooms are available for drop-in use, subject to availability.
We recommend calling ahead to reserve your preferred time, especially during peak hours between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Can I rent a room if I am not a VSO School of Music student?
Can I eat or drink in the rental rooms?
There may be additional fees charged for damage caused by food or beverages.
What is included with my room rental?
Amenities vary by room type. Practice rooms include a Yamaha upright piano. Studios, ensemble rooms, and larger venues may include additional equipment and furnishings.
Please contact us for details about a specific space and any associated fees.
Can I bring guests or an accompanist?
Can I request a specific piano?
We offer a wide variety of pianos, from Yamaha U1 uprights to Steinway Model B.
Specific instrument requests are subject to availability and may incur additional fees.
What happens if I arrive late?
Can I extend my booking on the day of my rental?
How far in advance can I make a rental reservation?
Eligible students may reserve practice rooms and studios up to 48 hours in advance.
Please contact us for paid rental reservations.
Please note that our scheduling operates on a term basis (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer). Requests for classroom bookings in an upcoming term are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed until scheduling has been finalized.
Major venue rentals may be booked up to one year in advance.
How do I pay for my rental booking?
The most convenient payment method is by credit card through your School account using our online checkout system.
For drop-in rentals, payment can be made at the Front Desk by:
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Cash
For larger venue rentals, including the Alan & Gwendoline Pyatt Hall, Arthur H. Willms Salon, and classrooms, we also accept:
- Cheque
- Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

Current VSO School of Music students and faculty may use practice rooms free of charge. We also offer:
- Non-profit rates for eligible rentals of the Alan & Gwendoline Pyatt Hall and Arthur H. Willms Salon
- A 10% discount on recurring bookings of 10 or more sessions, subject to room availability
Do you require a deposit for Pyatt Hall rentals?
Yes. A 50% deposit is required to confirm and finalize a Pyatt Hall booking.
The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the event date. Any additional charges for equipment, services, or event-related adjustments must also be settled before this deadline.
What is your rental cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellations are accepted up to two weeks prior to the event date.
The 50% deposit will be refunded as a credit toward a future rental booking.
